Tim Hetherington won World Press Photo prizes on three earlier occasions. After being injured in Afghanistan, where he broke an ankle, Hetherington recuperated over a number of months. Since then he has revived his work on a long-term project in Afghanistan. At the same time he covered conflicts in Chad and Liberia.
